This small volume is a reference guide. It includes information on a number of institutions in Western countries devoted to the study of international questions, especially of the Soviet Union and Eastern European countries. International relations, as a distinctive discipline, is relatively new. The specialized study of the USSR and of Eastern European countries in the West developed, in most cases, only after World War II. In the last two decades, however, the field has grown considerably. Specialized institutions made their appearance and new fields of study began to develop. This guide provides basic information about these research institutions as well as indicating the general areas of research work taking place in each one.
